Why Blue Mind?
This retreat offers a nurturing sanctuary for a true RESET.
Most of us live in a state of 'Red Mind' which consists of stress, pressure and constant doing.
What we need is more 'Blue Mind' which is the clarity, calm and reset you feel when you are in, on or near water. Dr Wallace J. Nichols coined the term Blue Mind after extensive research into how water soothes our brain and supports wellbeing.
This retreat has been designed to help you shift from Red Mind to Blue Mind by including incorporating the beautiful environment and including immersive activities such as ocean walks, paddle boarding and river-side activities.
Furthermore, you will experience psychologist-led sessions where you will learn evidence-based strategies that have been proven to work, yoga, and time to reflect and re-discover feeling calmer and more confident.

Research shows that proximity to water:
-
Lowers cortisol levels, helping reduce chronic stress
-
Activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting calm and emotional regulation
-
Inspires awe and mindfulness, which are linked to greater happiness and life satisfaction
-
Improves creativity and focus, as our brains enter a more relaxed but alert state
-
Encourages connection, both to self and others, fostering deeper relationships and meaning
In today's always-on, high-pressure world, Blue Mind offers a much-needed reset — a return to presence, simplicity, and inner clarity.
The Blue Mind Retreat at Angourie is the embodiment of this. A chance for high-achieving, overwhelmed women to pause, breathe, and reset by the ocean — with expert psychological guidance, restorative practices, and meaningful connection.

About Your Hosts
Kylie Donnolley - Psychologist
Kylie is a dedicated psychologist and mother of three who understands the unique pressures women face in today’s fast-paced world. Balancing career demands, family responsibilities, and the weight of high expectations often leaves little room for self-care or stillness.

Growing up near the ocean, Kylie always found calm and clarity in the rhythm of the waves. When she later discovered the science behind Blue Mind—the therapeutic benefits of being in, on, or near water—it deeply resonated and affirmed what she had always felt. This connection now inspires her work, helping others find balance, peace, and renewed purpose through the integration of Postive Psychology, neuroscience and the healing power of water.

Kylie also believes in the power of self-reflection and authentic self-awareness as keys to meaningful growth—both personally and professionally—by aligning with one’s purpose and passion to enhance overall wellbeing. The retreats she offers aims to foster this growth in women.

Sonia Deakin – Event Specialist
With over 30 years of experience across film, tourism, media, and entertainment, Sonia brings a calm, capable presence and a wealth of knowledge to everything she does. As an accomplished event specialist and long-time entrepreneur, she has a gift for holding space—gently and expertly guiding things behind the scenes so others can simply arrive and exhale.

Now based in Yamba, Sonia has an intuitive connection to the ocean. Having grown up by the coast, she’s always been drawn to the water as a source of comfort and clarity. After personally navigating periods of anxiety, she discovered what science now confirms—that time near the ocean soothes the nervous system. Daily beach walks and ocean swims have become an essential part of her rhythm and wellbeing.

She’s also no stranger to managing complexity with care—balancing family life, two businesses, and large-scale events, including seven years as Event Director for an annual convention of 1,000+ attendees. With Sonia on the team, participants can trust that they are in thoughtful, experienced hands—and that they’ll be welcomed into the retreat with the insight and heart of a true local.
